I really, really love a politician with balls. And Andre Bauer, Lt. Governor of South Carolina qualifies for the coveted Cajones Trophy. I urge you to read the entire story, “Don’t Feed the Animals,” in the Boston Herald.
According to Bauer, the “culture of dependency” we have fostered in our welfare system must change.
“The problem is, there are so many folks now who don’t have to do a thing. In government, we continue to reward bad behavior. Anytime we give somebody money, we’re rewarding them. We’re telling them to keep doing what they’re doing. Government’s got to change. Babies having babies, somebody’s got to talk about.
“If you receive goods or services from the government, you owe something back.”
“We’re breeding a culture of dependency. We have generation after generation of babies having babies and no vehicle to get them out of that situation. We’re doing a disservice to the very people we say we’re trying to help.”
“I came from a broken home. I have been in this situation. Do I think poor people ought to be helped? Yes. I’m saying we’ve got to do things to break the cycle.”
“I believe in charity. I believe in helping people. I also believe government, too often in its effort to help people, ends up creating a bigger problem.”
You don’t have to imagine the howls of protest from the liberals regarding Mr. Bauer’s remarks. Just step out in your front yard and you can hear them.
